Spotlight

There are a handful of chemicals hidden within foundations, concealers, lipsticks and more that don’t do your body any favors. It’s important to take a closer look at the ingredient labels on your favorite cosmetic products to make sure that they aren’t causing more harm than good — and we’re not just talking about clogged pores here.

The Deets: Parabens, for example, are in many cosmetics and can wreak havoc on your hormones. Sulfates, which are commonly found in foundation products, are associated with skin irritation, canker sores and eye damage, and they can disrupt your skin’s natural oil balance as well. Even worse: Petroleum is an ingredient in many mascaras. Yikes!

The Bottom Line: Know before you buy, friends, because your health is way more important than looking Insta-flawless. Going organic with your skincare is always a great idea, but at the very least, start really reading those ingredient labels. [Swirled]
