Don’t you hate it when you buy a pair of really awesome shoes at full price only to see them go on sale just a few days later? What about when your online order ships days later than expected? Yeah, us, too. So when we heard about the Paribus app (by Capital One), we thought it was too good to be true. Some users report having saved $20 in the first week, while others received a $10 Amazon credit after an order was delayed — all because of the Paribus app, which apparently does all the work for you. If you’re as curious as we were, keep reading. We tested it out ourselves.

Before you download Paribus, know the basics.

  • It’s free and available on both desktop and mobile (iOS only).
  • Users must have an email account through Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook to use Paribus.
  • You need to connect your email account to the app, and it will ask if you allow it to monitor, read and send emails on your behalf.
  • Make sure you connect the right email address to the Paribus app — it should be the one where all of your online shopping receipts are sent.
  • You also need to connect your store accounts (like Amazon or Walmart) in the settings section if you want the app to monitor your deliveries.
  • You never need to connect any bank or credit card accounts to the app.

With Paribus, you can basically set it and forget it.

Once you’re logged into the app on your desktop or mobile device and have connected your accounts, Paribus will pretty much do all of the work for you. After shopping at one of 25+ retailers — like Amazon, Macy’s, Target, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Costco, Anthropologie, Loft, Wayfair and more — Paribus will monitor your receipts and any price drops on items you already bought.

As long as the store has a price adjustment policy where customers can be paid the difference between what they purchased the item for and what it sells for afterward, then Paribus will get money back in your bank account. Every store has a different price adjustment policy, so it might be helpful to read up on all of them so you know what Paribus will be doing for you.

Beyond price drops and adjustments, Paribus will also monitor deliveries from certain stores. If a delivery is late, Paribus will contact the retailer to see if it offers money or credits to the customer because of the delayed package.

Note: It may take a little while for Paribus to pick up on the price drop. Items will be added to your account in the Paribus app once they have been shipped out to you.

Saving money just got so much easier.

If you’re a frequent online shopper, then you already know how to spend money. But with Paribus, you’ll also be able to save more. The app basically finds you money that you can then transfer into your savings account.

For instance, let’s say you bought a new TV for $300, but then it goes on sale for $250. Paribus will work to get that $50 back into your account. Since you now have an extra $50 that you didn’t plan on having, you can (and should) transfer it into your savings account ASAP so you don’t spend it again. Sounds super simple, right? Let’s say Paribus finds you an extra $50 per month. That means you could end up saving an additional $600 per year — all for just shopping online at your favorite stores!

Pro tip: Keep track of how much you spend online every month and how much you save with Paribus in a budget spreadsheet to find even more ways you can save money.

Consider Paribus even if you’re not the couponing kind.

If you’re a frequent online shopper but hate cutting coupons or searching for codes, then Paribus is for you. We get it — there are so many amazing deals out there, but sometimes you just need to buy what you need to buy and move on with your life. So if you’re not one to try and save money before making a purchase, then download Paribus so you can get some money back after the fact.

In reality, even if you are the coupon queen or discount code king, Paribus can help you save even more if the price drops after your purchase has been made. It’s really a no-brainer for even the savviest of savers.

There are so many great financial apps out there right now that it can be tough to keep up with them all. Have a favorite you want to share? Let us know by joining the conversation in our LinkedIn Group!
