1. Workout of the Week: Shifting Supermans
Strengthen your arms and upper body with exercises like shifting Supermans. Lie down on your stomach with your arms and legs stretched out long. Engaging your shoulders, lower back and glutes, lift both arms and legs off the floor into a flying Superman position. Lower slightly, move your arms into a field goal position and extend upward again. Lower slightly again, move your arms back so your hands face the sides of your thighs and extend upward again. Repeat this arm sequence for 60 seconds. [Swirled]
2. Life Hack Of The Day: Wrinkle Edition
Hang wrinkled clothes in the bathroom while you shower to de-wrinkle them seamlessly.
3. What To Watch: “Dumplin’”
Willowdean, AKA Dumplin’, is the daughter of a local celebrity beauty queen who just doesn’t feel like she fits into the world of Southern Belle Texas. But with Dolly Parton music blasting and a few unexpected friends by her side, Willowdean decides to enter the local beauty pageant to the surprise of many. While she doesn’t win the competition, she does achieve a new sense of self-confidence and inspires other young women to go for what they want, too, despite what society tells them. [Netflix]
4. What to Read: “A Ladder To The Sky” by John Boyne
John Boyne’s latest novel follows the life and career of a man whose only dream is to become a renowned author. Too bad he can’t ever come up with good story ideas of his own… but does that have to stop him? This crafty work of fiction questions the concepts of intellectual property, how much a person does or doesn’t own their ideas and the unethical lengths man will go to in order to achieve success. 10. Wild Card: 5 Tropical Islands To Dream About During This Polar Vortex
When it’s so cold outside that your eyelashes can freeze, it’s too cold. And that means it’s time to indulge in some wanderlust — some warm weather wanderlust, to be specific. So to keep warm, we’re dreaming about five steamy islands we’d like to be on right now, like Mexico’s Marieta Islands, which are three wild isles far from Cancún in both location and mood. They are UNESCO-protected biospheres, so you’ll be right out there soaking up as much warmth as possible without any beach interruptions. [Swirled]
