Thanks To IHOP’s New Pumpkin Pancake Beer, You Can Drink Your Pancakes

IHOP — commonly known as the home of stacks of pancakes bigger than your head — is jumping on the pumpkin-flavored drink bandwagon just in time for fall. The International House of Pancakes just announced its newest invention: a limited-edition IHOPS Pumpkin Pancake stout that’ll be available for the rest of September and through October.
The American breakfast staple partnered with Hudson Valley craft brewer Keegan Ales to launch their new IHOPS beer, which reportedly gets its flavor from a blend of IHOP signature buttermilk pancake batter mix, pumpkins, maple syrup and other pancake ingredients — disgusting or delicious? We’re not quite sure…
Interestingly, the breakfast chain doesn’t plan to sell its new beer at IHOP restaurants, likely because the boozy drink doesn’t fit with the pancake shop’s family-friendly image. Instead, IHOPS will only be available at select bars and festivals across the New York tri-state area.

It’s not the first time that IHOP pulled a publicity stunt like this one to draw attention from its customers. Earlier this year the pancake bestseller’s marketing team hinted on social media that IHOP was planning to change its name to “IHOb” — urging customers to guess what the “b” stood for: biscuits, burritos, bacon, butternut squash or barnacles? It turns out that the “b” stood for burgers, marking the addition of burgers to the chain’s mostly breakfast-focused menu.
The beginning of fall also marks the return of IHOP’s seasonal pancakes — Pumpkin Spice, Cinn-A-Stack and Pumpkin Cinn-A-Stacks, a newly-introduced combo of the two. Take your pancakes to go and pair them at home with the breakfast chain’s new brew for the perfect fall boozy brunch combo. Talk about sugar overload.
