Spotlight

If you’ve always dreamed of hanging with pandas, now is your chance. You can visit a panda sanctuary in China, spend time with your furry friends and even get the opportunity to hug one — for a price, of course.

The Deets: The Wolong National Nature Reserve’s Gengda Center in Chengdu, China allows visitors to meet pandas before they’re reintroduced into the wild. If you’re lucky, you might see baby pandas sleeping in incubators, which are displayed to the public between July and September. Stroll by the panda kindergarten, where caretakers check in on youngsters. You can even help with feedings and clean panda homes if you want to donate your time.

The Cost: Admission rates start at $10 and go up to $285 if you want to hug those pandas (which, TBH, you definitely do.). There are only roughly 2,000 pandas left in the wild, so being able to see the endangered species up close is priceless. [Swirled]

Life Hack Of The Day: Stretching Edition

If you’re not familiar with adaptogens, it’s time to get acquainted. Adaptogens are plants (mostly herbs like Chinese ginseng, ashwagandha, rosemary and licorice root) that can help balance out the stress response of the human body. You can brew them in tea, use them when you cook (hey, rosemary!) or take them in supplement form. [Swirled]

Did You Know? You might not be switching out your washcloth as often as you need to. You should wash it after two uses to avoid any mold and bacteria build-up on the towel. To be safe, throw your washcloth in the dryer after each use to decrease bacteria growth. [Swirled]

Quote Of The Day: “Life is not a spectator sport. Win, lose or draw, the game is in progress, whether we want it to be or not. So go ahead — argue with the refs, change the rules… cheat a little, take a break… and tend to your wounds. But play. Play. Play hard. Play fast. Play loose and free.” — Meredith Grey, “Grey’s Anatomy” [Swirled]

There are a handful of factors that determine a restaurant’s “special” in addition to the main menu. While it’s entirely possible that the chef found some fun seasonal produce at the farmers market, he or she could have been seriously craving something specific and added it to the menu just for kicks. Better yet, the special could also be the lovechild of a few expiring or recycled ingredients in the kitchen… [Swirled]

Recipe Of The Day: A super easy and flavorful pan sauce could make a huge difference in your dinner experience. After you cook your meat or veggies (preferably seared on the stove), pour out the oil and leave those brown bits in the pan. Then, add aromatics (like your fave spices) and a cold liquid (like white wine or stock) and cook the mixture on medium-to-low heat until the liquid is reduced by a third. Finally, add fresh herbs and a fat like butter, and serve! [Swirled]
