Sweet potato casserole is like that mediator between all the savory and sweet dishes at your table during the holidays. It’s quite the diplomat, but don’t mistake it for too accommodating — our recipe packs in flavor like no other, and it shines on its own. Here is the only sweet potato casserole recipe you’ll need this year (and even your super picky aunt will demand to know how it was made).

Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients

  • 5 large sweet potatoes, quartered, boiled and mashed
  • 7 tablespoons melted butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup of half and half
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar, plus 2 Tbsp. for topping
  • 2 teaspoons of  cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and butter a large baking dish. Set aside.

In a large bowl, mix the mashed sweet potatoes, 3 tablespoons of melted butter, 1/2 cup of half and half, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and eggs. Pour into the baking dish.

Make the topping by mixing the flour, 4 tablespoons of melted butter, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of chopped pecans and salt, to taste. Crumble the topping over the casserole and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.
