Online shopping is always super convenient, especially during busy shopping seasons like the holidays. However, it can be tough to trust that your package will arrive when you need. Plus, there’s the chance that it’ll be delivered when you’re at work or dinner with the family. So even though ordering items online is easy, actually receiving them is sometimes difficult.

That’s where Slice comes in. This app from global powerhouse Rakuten will help you track your packages, save you money on your orders and return things in a jiffy. With online shopping season in full swing, we decided to test the Slice app out for ourselves and see if it’s a must-have on our phones. Here’s what we found.

Before you download Slice, know the basics.

  • It’s free and available for both iOS and Android users.
  • It connects to the email account where your online shopping receipts are sent.
  • Slice works with Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Outlook, Comcast, iCloud and Cox email addresses.
  • Slice automatically finds any and all receipts for items you’ve purchased online in that email account — all the way back to 2006.
  • It tracks your packages based on your receipts and gives you an estimate of when they’ll arrive.
  • Like the Paribus app, if an item you’ve purchased has a price drop, Slice will notify you so you can get that money back in your pocket.
  • Slice will even let you know if an item you purchased is now being recalled for some reason.
  • It doesn’t have access to your credit cards or bank accounts, so your financial information remains private.

Slice works with your favorite online stores.

Signing up is as simple as typing in your email address — that’s literally it. The Slice app will also ask you to manually connect your Amazon account so that it can track all of those purchases. Amazon’s e-receipts have a little less info in them than other stores, so Slice wants to ensure that it has access to everything it needs to help track your packages and save you money.

Slice works with top stores like Zappos, Best Buy, Kohl’s, Macy’s and more. It’ll even track food delivery orders like Panera Bread and rideshare receipts from services like Uber. Basically, any and all receipts that end up in your inbox will also show up in the Slice app, which helps you keep track of all your purchases.

Exact dates help you prepare for package delivery.

Slice tracks your shipments and notes exactly when it expects your orders to arrive. For example, when we tested out the app, we saw that Slice was tracking a pair of boots we had ordered a week or two prior. In the shipments section of the app, we could see that the boots were scheduled to arrive that day, with a map and name of the company that would be delivering them (UPS instead of FedEx). When the item arrives, just click that button in the same section to move the shipment from the current section to the past section of the app.

Returns are easier than ever.

For all online orders, as well as in-store purchases, you can view the email receipt right in the app on that same page with the shipping info, which helps make returns that much easier. No more searching through your inbox for the right email with the receipt or losing the paper one and missing out on getting your money back.

You can also get the store’s return policy information for the item right there in the app. If you want to make sure the item makes it back to the retailer, you can also add tracking info for the item.

Pro tip: No matter where you shop, always have your receipt emailed to you. This way, you can always find it when needed — even weeks or months after you made the purchase in the store or online.

When we downloaded the app, we expected package tracking, easy returns and price drops, but we didn’t expect there to be a deals section. Let’s just say we were pleasantly surprised to see one more way to save money.

In the deals section of the Slice app, you can view items that are on sale through Amazon, Bloomingdales, Costco, The Home Depot, Gap and more. For instance, at the time of writing this review, Amazon had deals for almost 50 percent off bedding and 60 percent off books. You can click straight through to the items, too, and buy them via the Amazon app, which is connected to Slice. It keeps all of your shopping in one place, so you know your receipt will be safe and your package will be tracked. We have to admit — it makes shopping these deals a little dangerous if you’re easily hooked by a good price!

With all of these features, Slice is a must-have app on your phone. It easily keeps all of your shopping information in one place. You’ll stress less about your packages, keep your receipts organized at all times and find deals at top stores to help you save even more money.
