Lyft Announces Free Rides And Discounts For Voters On Election Day
To ensure no one misses out on exercising their right to vote this Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, Lyft is offering free rides and 50-percent-off discounts. Free rides will be offered to voters in underserved communities around the U.S., while 50-percent-off promo codes will be distributed across the rest of the country.
According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE), 12.5 million registered voters between the ages of 18 and 29 didn’t vote in the 2014 midterm elections. With that in mind, Lyft wants to make sure this year’s voter turnout is different.
Lyft’s free rides will be offered through its nonpartisan, nonprofit partners like Voto Latino, local Urban League affiliates and the National Federation for the Blind. Discounted rides will be offered through Lyft’s other partners, including Vote.org, Nonprofit Vote and TurboVote, among others. These partners will distribute the promo codes to those voters in need, while also working to help voters locate their polling stations in their communities.
This announcement comes just hours after Lyft discussed the future of the self-driving car at its New York City event, Ride Into The Future, on Aug. 22. According to the panel of industry leaders and Lyft’s own employees, people spend an average of $9,000 on their cars every year. Between maintenance, gas, car insurance and other fees, it can really add up and be a large part of your budget. Lyft has a mission to change all of that over the next several years, which could help people in cities across the U.S. stress less about the money they spend on their vehicles.
If you’re someone who fits that profile and is already a little strapped for cash, then take advantage of these this Election Day deal from Lyft. Additionally, consider ride share monthly subscriptions as an alternative to owning or renting a car. And keep working on your budget. You may be able to save more money on transportation thank you think.
