We’ve all been there. It’s the middle of the literal best night ever, and you’re ready to keep the party going and hop on over to the next bar on your list. And then, you open a ride-sharing app and see that the surge prices are outta control. It’s a nightmare. But did you know you can avoid those entirely with a little pre-planning?

Lyft users can schedule rides up to an entire week ahead of time — and lock down the price ahead of time, too.

That means no surge prices during popular times to be out and about. You can book a Lyft up to seven days in advance and you’ll know what you’re paying up front. On the day of your scheduled ride, you’ll get a reminder notification when your car is nearby.

If something changes in your plan, you can cancel the car for free up until 30 minutes before your scheduled pick-up. So basically, it’s a win-win.

Now, since Lyft has to schedule these rides based on average prices, it’s possible you might miss out on a cheap deal by scheduling in advance. But since you’re definitely missing out on price hikes for busy times, it seems like the way to go to skip the surge.
