We all dream about breaking out of our daily routines and taking our work on the road. Our laptop in tow, we’d bounce from country to country, making ends meet somehow. And luckily, there are a lot of places around the world where you can stretch $1,000 into a livable monthly budget. Here are five locales where we feel the pull is especially strong and the cost of living is really friendly.

1. Bolivia

You could stay in a $5 hostel (yes, really) in Bolivia in the bigger cities or in some of the more remote (and stunning) wilderness. It’s just that affordable to visit here. In fact, the average price of an Airbnb in La Paz is just $27. That means you can probably find something fab for even less.

2. Cambodia

There are so many Airbnbs in Siem Reap that will make your little budget heart happy. You’ll be located right by some of the most amazing ruins in the world, Angkor Wat, and you’ll only have to pay around $20 a night for your own place or $7 a night at a hostel. Yeah, we could chill here for a while.

3. Montenegro

Montenegro is the kind of country where you visit and are immediately struck by utter confusion. Why aren’t more people visiting this place? But it works out well for you that it’s still underrated because you can stay in Kotor for 30 days at any number of excellent hostels for less than $15 a night. Or you could go a little less scenic (the Bay of Kotor is too beautiful for words) and get an Airbnb for about the same price.

4. Tanzania

You can easily stay in Tanzania for a month, happily chowing down on avocados and bananas fresh from the marketplaces. Hostels in beach-bum heaven Zanzibar are in the $20 range, while you can find no-frills safari-adjacent accommodations for $10.

5. Georgia

We’re head over heels in love with the entire country of Georgia for many reasons, one of which is its extreme wallet appeal. It’s so cheap to hang out in Georgia. Dreamy Airbnbs in Tbilisi run you $20, while hostels are closer to $10. That’s $200 to $300 in living expenses. And while you’ll want to eat masses of Georgian food, it still won’t hurt your bottom line much.
