What happens when one of the biggest beverage brands in the world hops on the healthy drink train? We’re excited to find out because Starbucks is launching a line of kombucha flavors under the Evolution Fresh label, a brand that the Seattle-based coffee chain partnered with back in 2011. If this isn’t a push to make the fermented tea drink mainstream, we don’t know what is.

Evolution Fresh Organic Kombucha is a combination of an artisanal tea base of yerba mate, pu’er black tea, green tea, Congou black tea or matcha. The cold-pressed kombucha line comes in six varieties: ginger lemon Honeycrisp, mango pineapple, ginger greens, spicy greens, pink grapefruit and turmeric pineapple coconut.

You’ll see the juice line available at grocery stores and natural food markets around Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, San Diego and Seattle before expanding further this fall and next spring.

The brand will make sure to bottle the kombucha below the industry’s 0.5 percent ABV requirements since fermented beverages are known to have surprisingly high levels of alcohol. Evolution Fresh’s kombucha line will also be certified USDA organic, non-GMO, gluten-free and available in 15.2-ounce bottles.

It looks like Starbucks is looking out for our digestive wellness as well as our caffeine needs.
