If you weren’t watching “Sabrina The Teenage Witch” from the 90s to the early 2000s, what were you really doing with your free time? The American sitcom was the epitome of 90s fashion — chokers, skin-hugging crop tops and all. The charming and bubbly teenager, Sabrina Spellman (played by Melissa Joan Hart) taught us about embracing our quirks, love, cranky cats, intense family dynamics, high school politics and navigating the teenage years with a sense of humor and, of course, magical powers. The 90s sitcom made most pre-teens want to be witches and live with crazy aunts and a teleporting closet upstairs. It’s a show that defined an era, inspired an animated series and became the basis for a new Netflix series called the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Here are seven unforgettable life lessons we learned from Sabrina, the loveable teenage which.

1. The people that love you will love you no matter what.

Sabrina struggles throughout the series with the fact that she’s a witch and isn’t allowed to tell anyone. She constantly feels somewhat isolated, keeping such a core part of her identity to herself. In the end, she ends up with Harvey and he loves her, powers and all.

2. Embrace your inner weirdo.

From living with a 500-year-old cat to traveling to the other realm through a closet to turning teenagers into pineapples, Sabrina’s life was nothing short of fascinating. Even though Sabrina’s powers seemed like a burden at times, she learned to embrace the qualities that she thought were “weird” because they’re what made her so amazing. We should all embrace our quirks like Sabrina instead of harping on them.

3. The good cop, bad cop parenting style actually works.

Zelda and Hilda had opposite parenting styles with Sabrina, but together they made one perfect parent. Zelda had a passion for science and acted as the more responsible and logical one of the two. Hilda was more on the artsy fun-loving side and was always getting into some kind of messy situation. While Zelda helped Sabrina control her powers, Hilda helped Sabrina through all kinds of tough dilemmas. The whole yin and yang approach turned out to be the best strategy.

4.  Self-love is important.

Hilda Spellman was always teaching us about the importance of self-love. Whether it was feeling extra confident in a suit of armor or gifting herself a bouquet of flowers, Sabrina’s aunt was always treating herself. It’s important to be good to yourself in this life.

5.  Sometimes rules need to be broken.

Sabrina made all kinds of questionable decisions throughout the series that might’ve been against her best judgment. But, whenever she broke the rules, it was always to help out her friends and family. Sometimes the rules need to be broken (unless, of course, it’s illegal) to find the best solution.

6. Don’t stress out about the embarrassing moments.

Throughout the series, Sabrina had her fair share of embarrassing moments. Sometimes it involved magic and other times it was all just part of being a teenager. The shock of every embarrassing moment starts to fade almost immediately after it happens, so don’t sweat the small stuff.
