This New York City Dim Sum Shop Makes An ‘Invisible Dumpling’

A Queens dim sum shop is taking food transparency to a literal level with invisible dumplings. At Dumpling Galaxy — a sit-down spot in Flushing, Queens with over 100 dumpling varieties — there’s a dumpling that’s made with a clear wrapper so you can see exactly what you’re eating.

The Crystal Dessert Dumpling, inspired by a translucent handbag at the beach, has a dumpling skin that’s made out of gelatin. The gelatin mixture gets poured onto a plate to form a circle shape and gets stuffed with seasoned nuts and seeds like cashews, peanuts, walnuts, sesame seeds, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

The nuts and seeds are topped with Asian pears and tomatoes. Everything is nestled into the gelatin wrapper and the whole dumpling is dusted with cilantro.

The “invisible dumpling” might give you granola bar meets jellyfish vibes, with the clear wrapper having no taste at all. In between all of the meat and veggie dumplings, this sweet one could be an awesome palate cleanser that’s way lighter than the rest of the menu. It’s time for a field trip to Flushing!
