Trader Joe’s Has Frozen Soup Dumplings And We’re Stocking Up

@eyu34

Trader Joe’s has made it possible to enjoy soup dumplings without even getting dressed and going out to dim sum. Head to the frozen aisle of Trader Joe’s and you’ll find steamed chicken soup dumplings. Six dumplings come in a package for $2.99.

The most magical part about soup dumplings is the steaming hot soup that’s concealed inside. The dumplings are filled with chicken and a rich, savory broth (although nothing will beat the homemade kind). They come in a microwavable tray and all you have to do is heat them up for two minutes or less. After they’re done heating, carefully remove each dumpling from the tray. The skin is fragile so be gentle. If you rip the skin by accident the soup will leak before it gets to your mouth and no one wants wasted soup.

Take the soup dumpling and place it in a large spoon. Bite a tiny hole towards the top of the dumpling so that the broth runs out onto the spoon. Let it cool for a few seconds and then slurp up the whole dumpling (kind of like an oyster, but with more chewing). All of the textures and flavors will take over your mouth and it’s a fun time.

Going off on a dumpling tangent — aren’t you wondering how the soup even gets inside the dumpling? A stock is made ahead of time and after the stock cools, it becomes a gelatinous texture. The stock is cut into cubes and then tucked in with the meat filling before the dumplings are wrapped up. Once the dumplings are steamed the soup becomes liquefied inside and hangs tight until you bite into it. Pretty cool.
