Put a glass of icy water in front of your fan to fake an air conditioner if your room doesnât have one.
Health
Not all energy drinks are pure trash for your body. EnerBee Organic Energy, for example, offers a lemon green tea drink made of carbonated water, organic green tea, organic honey, organic cane sugar, organic lemon juice, stevia and natural flavors. Itâs simple and wonât cause a sugar crash. [Swirled]
Cutting carbs could come with some flu-like side effects. You could experience a number of symptoms like brain fog, body chills, a sore throat, nausea and confusion from the quick, dramatic cut-out of carbs from your daily diet. To avoid it, hydrate as much as possible and up your salt and electrolyte intake. [Swirled]
One night of poor sleep does more harm to your body than you might think. Researchers found that participants who had a poor nightâs sleep exhibited impaired glucose levels the following morning. The genes responsible for weight gain were also activated. If that isnât a good reason to get some solid shut-eye, we donât know what is! [mindbodygreen]
Career + Finance
You wonât want to leave for your Labor Day vacay without some budget-friendly essentials. You canât go wrong with an insulated wine glass (hello, beach party!) or dry shampoo for when you want to look awesome at dinner. Oh, and donât forget sunscreen! Â [Swirled]
IRS says your 401(k) could potentially be used for your student loans. Employers may be able to contribute matches to employeesâ student loans instead of only 401(k)s. Any contribution excess employees don’t apply to their debt may be applied to their retirement accounts. [Swirled]
Facebook Watch is launching worldwide. Facebook Watch, which is the social networkâs hub of original video content, offers special features like watch parties, premiers and even game shows. You can even use your âDiscoverâ feed to find new videos related to you. [Tech Crunch]
Food + Drink
Oreo’s parent company is launching Hot Chicken Wing and Wasabi flavors in China.
The Hot Chicken Wing creme filling is bright orange like Buffalo sauce, and the Wasabi creme is a vibrant green like, well, wasabi. Both flavors are sandwiched between Oreo’s classic chocolate cookie. Let’s hope these savory flavors make it to the States! [Swirled]
Donât show up at that Labor Day party without salted dark chocolate chunk brownies. With just 10 minutes of prep time and enough chocolate to feed a small army, youâve got your easy breezy holiday dessert ready to go. [Giadzy]
Travel
It’s not too late to get out of the city for Labor Day. You can still plan one last summer beach hurrah. If you’re in NYC, hit the Jersey Shore. If you’re based in LA, head to San Clemente. Midwestern folks in Chicago, go to your best beach bet: Grand Haven, Michigan. [Swirled]
If you need some beachy vacay inspo, this Philippines beach has you covered. Palawan, an island off the Philippines, has received numerous honors for being one of the best beaches in the world. Aside from the fact that the islandâs history is insane (and dates back 50,000 years), you can get hooked on all kinds of outdoor activities here like cliff jumping and river boating. [Swirled]
You can fly to India for just $199. WOW Air is hosting cheap one-way flights with stopovers in Iceland from U.S. cities like Newark, Los Angeles, Boston, Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago and San Francisco. Plan to fly between January and March of next year for the best deal. [Condé Nast Traveler]
