Avocado toast has had plenty of time in the sun. But now, we need to let the avocado itself take center stage sans bread. The creamy green fruit is a healthy breakfast choice no matter how you slice it. Avocados are packed with healthy fats so you’ll satisfy that craving for a greasy breakfast sandwich but in a nutritious way. Here’s the easiest (and tastiest) way to enjoy an avocado as your first meal of the day.

5- Ingredient Spicy Avocado

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado (sliced in half with the pit removed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of freshly cracked black pepper and sea salt

Instructions

Wash your ripe avocado and slice it with a chef’s knife the long way around the whole fruit. Your knife won’t slice all the way through because of the pit, but make the deepest perforation you can all the way around. When you’ve got a firm grip on each half of the avocado, twist both halves in opposite directions and pull them apart.

Take a dish towel and hold the avocado half with the pit still attached. Lodge your chef’s knife into the pit and twist it to remove the pit. Here’s a how-to video below to make your life easier.

Drizzle the olive oil on each half, followed by a sprinkle of black pepper, sea salt, red pepper flakes and a sprinkle of lemon juice. Now grab a spoon and go to town! You’ll get the tart, the spicy and the salty all in one bite, and your stomach will feel all kinds of satisfied.
