Things in the United States have been a little rocky lately, so if you’re looking to relocate overseas you might want to check out Singapore.

According to HSBC’s annual Expat Explorer survey, a global survey completed by 22,318 expats across 163 different countries, Singapore was named the world’s best country for expats for the fourth year in a row. In case you need a refresher, expats (or expatriates) are people who live outside of their country of origin. Expats who participated in the survey were asked to rate the countries that they had relocated to based on three different categories: economics, overall experience and family life. Singapore scored high in all three categories.

For Singapore, forty-seven percent or more than half of the expats surveyed said that they moved to this  Southeast Asian country to advance in their careers. What’s more, expats in Singapore earn an average income of $162K. This is $56K more than the global average income, according to HSBC — one of the largest banking and financial services organizations in the world and the company responsible for conducting this survey. It’s important to keep in mind though that Singapore is also one of the world’s most expensive places to live, so the increased cost of living accounts for some of that higher salary. Renting a 900 square foot apartment in a relatively expensive area in Singapore would cost you an average of $2,500 per month.

Not only is Singapore a great country to move to in order to earn a good living, but based on the survey’s finding it’s also a good place for family life and wellbeing. Sixty percent of the survey participants said that their children’s health and wellbeing had improved since they moved to Singapore. So if you’re looking for a place to raise a happy family or if you just want to reap those wellbeing benefits for yourself, you might want to consider moving to this island country in Southern Asia.

However, if learning a new language sounds like a bit of a stretch to you, then consider moving to New Zealand. This country came in second as the most desirable place for expats, according to the survey. New Zealand earned the highest overall ranking for the “experience” category, probably in part because of its breathtaking landscapes and the plethora of outdoor activities that can be done there.

In case you’re wondering how the U.S. faired according to the survey, you won’t find the country anywhere close to the top 10. The land of the free and home of the brave came in 23rd place based on expat experience. Although HSBC reported that those who relocate to the U.S. usually fair well in terms of salary since the country offers almost $80K more than the average expat salary, long work hours and difficulty forming new friendships contributed to lowering the States’ overall ranking.
