This New York City Plant-Based Cafe Makes Activated Charcoal Bagels
The charcoal food trend is still very much alive and well. Between charcoal margaritas and charcoal cheese, there’s pretty no limit to what you can do with the jet-black powder. And now, we can enjoy it in fluffy bagel form.
Plantmade, a plant-based cafe in Manhattan’s East Village, serves activated charcoal bagels. These funky bagels are soft with a glossy black outer coating and sesame seeds sprinkled on top. You can order your charcoal bagel with a selection of cashew cream cheese, including plain, scallion, sundried tomato basil and cinnamon.
You can also get your charcoal bagel sandwich with veggies like lettuce, tomato, pickled onions, cucumber or avocado.
This health-focused cafe also offers “sweet toasts” like guava toast with macadamia ricotta cheese or agave and vanilla cinnamon toast with coconut cashew cream cheese. You’ll even find house-made snacks like beet chips, kale chips, vanilla matcha macaroons, dried mango and garlic and herb cashews.
When it comes to coffee drinks, Plantmade has creative options like pine pollen cappuccinos, smoked coconut tea and beet lattes.
If you’re a regular bagel eater and love digging into a health trend every once in a while, it’s time to see what the world of charcoal bagels is all about (and check out the world of plant-based food in the process).
