Tabasco Releases Scorpion Sauce, Its Hottest Yet

@toupsmeatery

Tabasco sauce is like the Kleenex of the hot sauce world: the brand is synonymous with the condiment that gives a spicy kick to your food. Now, Tabasco is upping its game with the release of Scorpion Sauce, which is 20 times hotter than the original. The sauce is hottest the company’s debuted to date. It’s a tangy and sweet limited-edition condiment that combines scorpion peppers with guava, pineapple and a little bit of the original recipe. Tabasco has a cult following, and if you’re a true hot sauce aficionado you probably have a bottle of the stuff in your bag at all times.

If you’re a hot sauce fiend and you can’t enjoy food without your eyes watering and your mouth being on fire, you’ll want to order a bottle of Scorpion Sauce before it’s out of stock. The small-batch sauce is only available online at Tabasco.com and Avery Island, the home of the pepper sauce factory. Located in Louisiana, Avery Island is filled with pepper fields and lush, tropical flora. It sits atop a deposit of solid rock salt that’s believed to be deeper than Mount Everest is high.

The scorpion pepper wasn’t discovered until 2012. After months of searching for the hottest chili pepper, experts at New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute came across the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, which scores more than 1.2 million units on the Scoville heat scale. The scorpion pepper might not hit you at first, but the heat builds up insanely quickly in your mouth.

If your taste buds can’t handle the Scorpion Sauce, Tabasco also released a slightly milder limited-edition called Roasted Red Sauce. This one is perfect for grilling and it’s made with Tabasco peppers that are slow roasted over an open fire with onions, garlic, basil and balsamic vinegar.

Get ’em while they’re hot!
