Famous Food Blogger Tieghan Gerard Settles The Blender vs. Food Processor Debate
When you’re on a budget, the idea of buying a food processor might feel intimidating, but a blender isn’t always going to save you. Swirled sat down with award-winning food blogger Tieghan Gerard of Half Baked Harvest and got the scoop on this kitchen appliance debate.
Out of all of the kitchen tools that Gerard uses on a daily basis, her food processor is one that she can’t live without. A blender is usually more on the narrow side, so it can be hard to evenly blend things. A good amount of food ends up chilling toward the top, leaving you scraping things down with a spatula every few seconds.
“It can be hard to finely grind your food when you’re using a blender,” said Gerard. You won’t get those smooth results you’re looking for.
A food processor, on the other hand, is definitely worth it in Gerard’s opinion. With a wider base, you’re able to blend anything from chickpeas to peppers way more easily. You always get that smooth consistency you love in spreads, sauces and dips. While it might be a little pricier than you’d like, the food processor is worth the investment. A blender will usually come in second in terms of a silky texture.
Now, despite what you may think, you don’t have to put a giant dent in your wallet for a food processor. You can buy a good quality 10-cup food processor for as low as $40, which is actually cheaper than a lot of blenders out there. Your food processor can double as a blender, too, whereas your blender won’t double as a food processor. You can use the processor to make all kinds of smoothies, soups, sauces, pestos and pretty much anything in between.
