Millennials Prefer Going Into The Office Despite Workplace Flexibility, Survey Finds
The average workplace is undoubtedly changing as millennials flip generations-old trends — hey, work from home policy! While we take full advantage of more flexibility and work-life balance, a survey found that we’d still rather go into the office than work from home full-time. What can we say? We like that face-to-face.
Randstad, a multinational human resource consulting firm, surveyed at least 400 people in each of numerous countries aged 18 to 65, who work a minimum of 24 hours a week, about their workplace preferences. Overall, 62 percent of participants reported wanting to consistently work from the office during regular business hours. That percentage was even higher among younger participants. Those aged 18 to 25 said that they were partial to working in traditional environments.
That said, the survey also showed that young people like the option of working from different locations, or from home, occasionally. Eighty-two percent of respondents said that occasional agile work (defined in the study as the ability to work from anywhere, anytime) helps them maintain a solid work-life balance. Eighty-one percent said it improves their productivity.
Honestly, having the option to work from anywhere is ideal. But there’s nothing like being in the office and having personal connections with those you work with. We imagine a flexible work-from-home policy is similar to having unlimited vacation time in that employees may take less of it as a result. If that’s true, then everyone wins, right?
