America’s Favorite Wine Isn’t What You’d Expect

If a solid night involves a couch, a movie and wine, join the club. According to a National Today Red Wine Day survey of 2,000 Americans, 80 percent said they loved wine. In fact, 12 percent said they liked wine so much, they could finish an entire bottle themselves. The survey ranked popularity of wines —red, white, sparkling, rosé and dessert — and the winner was clear. Red wine is America’s favorite.

Many would have thought that rosé would have taken the cake. From forties, rosé-flavored ice cream and even a personality test that shows which rosé is perfect for you, it’s a hot commodity. But even still, red won fair and square.

The survey showed that 20 percent of participants preferred red wine, followed by white wine (18 percent), sparkling wine (13 percent), rosé wine (11 percent) and dessert wine (11 percent).

Just as interesting: Participants chose Sutter Home, a fairly cheap nationwide wine, as the favorite brand at 24 percent of votes. The average price for a 1.5L bottle of Sutter Home Malbec is only $12.

Well, guys, start stocking up on your reds. We know we’ll cheers to that.
