This Underwater Airbnb Is As Close As You’re Gonna Get To Living Under The Sea

@nahhhhmean

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to live underwater, even just for a day without having to put on scuba gear? This underwater Airbnb allows you to do just that.

Situated at the Manta Resort off Pemba Island in Tanzania, the floating structure offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It includes two hardwood levels — a shaded deck and a sundeck — accompanying the underwater room. The sea-level deck is equipped with a lounge and bathroom facility and the sundeck has a sun bed for lounging.

The underwater room, which is five meters (or just over 16 feet) beneath sea level, features a bed surrounded by glass walls, perfect for gazing at sea life. The underwater accommodation will set you back $1,500 a night, but reviews suggest it’s totally worth it.

Amenities include:

  • A double bed
  • Bathroom and shower facilities with towels and shampoo
  • Air conditioning
  • Meals included and brought directly to you
  • Speedboat transportation to the platform
  • Complimentary use of mask, snorkel and fins
  • Refrigerator

Here’s how you can make this dream vacation a reality:

Book a roundtrip flight to Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam through Zanair, Coastal Air or Auric Air. Then take a shorter flight to ChakeChake Airport on Pemba Island. The Manta Resort will organize a $45 taxi to and from the airport.

You’ll need to specifically reserve the underwater room. Once you arrive, the hotel will take you out to the floating structure via speedboat, which is about five minutes away from the main resort.

From there, you can soak up the sun on the top deck, watch the fish swim by your room and enjoy your meals overlooking the crystal blue ocean in front of you.

The meals, by the way, are brought to you and taken away regularly by staff, so you won’t have to worry about lifting a finger.
