This Cozy Massachusetts Bar Is Tucked Into A Vintage Train Tunnel
Imagine if the subway or metro terminal you walk through every day randomly turned into a cozy bar. Well, you can actually see what that would be like at the Tunnel Bar in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Inside a vintage pedestrian train tunnel built underneath Union Station around 1986, there’s a sleek martini bar surrounded by the train tunnel’s original stone and brickwork. The curved ceiling is blanketed with ceramic tiles and brass-colored chandeliers, and you can lounge your evening away in comfy red leather furniture.
The bar has an old-fashioned feel, but the drinks are all kinds of elaborate. Tunnel Bar is known for its oversized martinis. You just tell the bartenders whatever you’re in the mood for, and they’ll whip it up.
There are 18 classic Tunnel Bar martini creations, like the “Proud Mary” with pepper vodka and all the classic Bloody Mary ingredients, and six different “dessertini’s” including sweet libations like the “Funky Monkey” with vanilla vodka, chocolate liqueur, Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur and banana liqueur, and the “Butterfinger” with vanilla vodka, butterscotch schnapps, Baileys and half and half.
Tunnel Bar is the perfect date spot or just an awesome underground escape from the universe when you need an ice-cold martini. BuzzFeed listed Tunnel Bar as one of the 19 bars you need to visit in the United States along with Minus5 Ice Bar in Las Vegas, Punch Bowl Social in Denver and The Safe House in Milwaukee.
