The Up & Up Is The Humble Landmark Serving Highbrow Drinks

The Up & Up

[tw-divider]The Scoop[/tw-divider]

  • This “high end, low key” cocktail bar in Greenwich Village was once home to The Gaslight Cafe, a coffeehouse that eventually became the stomping grounds for Beat Generation legends like Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, and Gregory Corso

  • You’ll actually get your money’s worth from these $15 cocktails. We’ve never met a weak drink here, but standouts include Papa’s Magical Services (rum, grapefruit juice, lime, coffee, and Demerara sugar) and the Screen Door Slam (rum, Armagnac, ginger, mint, lime, and Demerara)

  • The Up & Up doesn’t take reservations and doesn’t accommodate parties larger than five guests. It’s not a must, but you’ll have a better time if you lean into the upscale vibe with a little style. No polos, please

Be prepared to wait up to an hour to get in during the weekends. If there is a wait, the host will take your information and text you when seating becomes available
