The Best Underrated Thai Dishes You Can Find In 3 Regions Of Thailand
You can’t go to Thailand and only eat pad Thai. We know the noodle dish is absolutely delicious, but there are so many other regional specialties in the country that you need to try. Here are some of our favorite Thai dishes you can find everywhere in the actual country but are sadly underrepresented on menus in the United States.
In The North
In beginner Thai eater language, khao soi is the ramen of Thailand. The curry broth soup has egg noodles and is topped with fried egg noodles. There’s also naem, a bolder order than a noodle or rice dish. Naem is fermented pork wrapped in a bamboo leaf.
In Central Thailand
You may have seen this one listed on the appetizer menus at American Thai restaurants: tom yom soup. This spicy, savory soup often has shrimp, tomatoes and plenty of spices. You’ll also find tons of sticky rice in the central part of Thailand, whether it comes ready to be dipped in curry or with sliced mango and coconut milk as a dessert.
In The South
It’s all about curries in southern Thailand. You’ll find red, green, yellow and regional specialties like massamun drawing from Indian spices. Since you’re close or actually in the Thai islands, the seafood and fish is spectacular. Check out all the amazing seafood at the markets and don’t miss the shrimp!
