A holiday just isn’t complete without sugar cookies. And while they vary far and wide with lots of different icings, we decided to keep it simple for the lazy baker. Here’s the easiest sugar cookie recipe that also looks pretty (thanks to the M&M’S). Your fam will be surprised that you came through with some serious “baking skills.” 😉

Sugar Cookies With M&M Mistletoe

Sugar Cookie recipe

Swirled

Ingredients

  •  1 cup (or two sticks) of unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 3/4 cup of confectioners sugar
  • Red and green M&M’S

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until fluffy, about five minutes. Then, add the egg and vanilla and beat until incorporated. In another bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt and mix until completely combined. Add dry mixture into the wet mixture in batches and beat until just incorporated. Then, roll the batter into one-inch balls and place on the baking sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until just golden on the edges. Let cool.

To make the icing, mix the milk and confectioners sugar together to make a thick icing. Dip the tops of the cookies in the icing, then place three M&M’S on each cookie (AKA, mistletoe). Let cool.

Pro tip: If you have the time, chill your dough for two to three hours before baking. The dough will set up much more nicely and the flavors will have time to marinate!
