It may seem unseasonal to be thinking about snowy holiday trips, but it’s time to start planning for December.

According to Skyscanner, the best time to buy your holiday tickets is 11 weeks before departure. That’s the week of October 22 for Christmas, the week of October 4 for Hannukah and the week of Halloween for New Year’s Eve. In other words, it’s booking time.

Whether you want to embrace the ice or flee from it, here are the destinations on our radar for the holidays. White snowy streets or white sand beaches — the choice is yours.

Winter Wonderlands

Let it snow! These chilly cities are so irresistible that you won’t mind your nose getting cold. And you can always warm up with a steaming mug of hot chocolate — it’s practically required.

Warm and Tropical

South of our borders, it’s still swimming weather. And even better, on the other side of the equator, it’s summer. So take a break from the bitter winds of winter and slather on the SPF.

If you’re heading home and don’t have flexibility with your destinations or dates, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Set up flight alerts to notify you when a ticket hits a certain price. You can do this on Google Flights, Kayak or Skyscanner.
  • If you see a deal that looks too good to be true, don’t wait. Buy it while the price is good.
  • But pay attention to budget airlines. Sometimes the low cost isn’t worth the hassle.
