New Starbucks Macchiatos Get A Hot And Cold Makeover For Spring

Starbucks

In a limited-edition release that begins Tuesday, February 28, Starbucks has introduced two new versions of its classic Caramel Macchiato — espresso with steamed milk, vanilla syrup, a drizzle of caramel and the occasional whipped cream topping.

In an homage to these next few weeks between winter and spring, when your week might start in the balmy 70s and end in the bracing 30s, Starbucks has made a drink for each end of the spectrum: the Iced Cinnamon Almondmilk Macchiato…

The cinnamon macchiato is inspired by horchata, a summery drink popular in Mexico and South America, while the mocha macchiato is meant for more blustery days, though you can also get it over ice.

The macchiato, by the way, was the first espresso drink ever added to the official Starbucks menu, and there is a difference between an espresso macchiato and a latte macchiato — the former is two shots of espresso marked with a dollop of foam, and the latter is made with steamed milk, foam, and shots of espresso.
