People Are Stooping To An All-Time Low And Snorting Chocolate To Get High

Apparently, even the most innocent substances can be turned into recreational drugs if you get creative enough. Take cacao, for example. Why make a calming cup of hot chocolate when you can snort the stuff instead and experience a short-term, full-body high?

That’s the mindset of far too many people in this world, originating in European countries and recently migrating to the United States. Don’t ask us who snorted this brown powder first and said, “Wow, this feels awesome!” Just know that once word got out, product development followed, specifically at Legal Lean, a company based in Orlando, Florida. It recently added “Coco Loko Infused Raw Cacao Snuff” to its… colorful portfolio. (“Lean,” or “purple drank,” is the company’s primary specialty.) Coco Loko blends cacao powder with ginkgo biloba, taurine and guarana, combining the stimulating effect of energy drinks with the high that cacao creates.

So, yes, this is a “drug-free way to get a buzz,” but come on. Do you really think shoving chocolate up your nose is a good idea?

Like the majority of supplements out there, cacao snuff is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration. No one has thought to study the potential effects of snorting chocolate yet (because honestly, who would?) so we don’t have any solid information regarding potential, not-so-pretty side effects.

Medical professionals are concerned about the health of snorters since we don’t know how much of each ingredient gets absorbed into nasal mucous membranes. Plus, they risk creating a full-on blockage of their sinuses when enough of the powder mixes with mucus. Yummy.

You better bet that we have a million better things to do with our time than snort chocolate powder to see if we can snag a 30 to 60-minute high. Honestly, you probably do, too. But hey, you’re obviously free to make your own call about this one. Just be careful of where you sneeze…
