7/11/19 Newsletter: Prime Day Is 4 Days Away!

Buckle up because Amazon Prime Day will be bigger and badder than ever before. The online shopping event will run a full 48 hours beginning at 2:59 am ET on Monday, July 15th through July 16th. If you can’t wait until the big two-day event to start saving, you can take advantage of the Amazon Prime early-bird deals that are going on right now. [Swirled]

Life Hack Of The Day: Stale Bread Edition

If your bread, rolls or buns are hard and dry, use a cheese grater or food processor to grate them into breadcrumbs for recipes. Store them in a glass jar or zip-top freezer bag for future use. Add the crumbs from cracker “sleeves” to another jar or container for a breading variation. Thanks to our community member Kimberly W. for this genius lifehack.

Health

If you’re always expecting the worst, the effects can be distressing and negatively affect your health. If your sleep is suffering, avoid stressful situations like checking email or bills right before bed. And sometimes it’s just a matter of mind over matter — try meditating for 15 minutes to help relieve stress. Tap through for more wellness tips. [CNBC]

Career + Finance + Tech

When you’re a side hustler, you’re most likely getting paid directly from your clients or customers via cash, check, PayPal or maybe even Venmo. However, you need to pay taxes on the money you generate from a side income. You can pay your taxes quarterly (every three months) or wait until income tax season, but either way, you should set aside 25 to 30 percent of your income for taxes. If you don’t, you could end up blowing your budget. [Swirled]

Recipe Of The Day: Why eat dessert when you can drink it?! Spiked Strawberry Shortcake Shake is a vodka-laced strawberry milkshake with a shortcake crumble rim. OMG, we’d order that for dessert! Combine 1/2 cup of water, a 1/2 cup plus one tablespoon of sugar, half a slice of shortcake or pound cake, 2 cups of strawberries, 1 cup of vanilla ice cream, a 1/2 cup of milk, two shots of whipped cream vodka and a 1/2 cup of whipped cream. Blend and serve with a strawberry garnish. Tap through for the full recipe and more dessert-inspired drinks. [Swirled]

A quick tip from yours truly: Have fun with this and experiment — blueberries, peaches or raspberries would make an excellent substitute for the strawberries. And if you’d rather make this non-alcoholic, just substitute milk for the vodka.
