Do you travel primarily to learn about a city’s history and culture? We give you mad props. You probably already know that the world’s oldest cities have so much to offer us in the way of history, but here are five of them that you definitely need to visit ASAP.

1. Damascus, Syria

Damascus was founded in the third millennium B.C. and is considered the oldest, continuously inhabitable city in the world.

2. Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, which is the capital of Portugal, dates back at least 300,000 years. Its population is still thriving with more than 500,000 residents.

3. Jericho (Self-Ruled City in Palestine)

Jericho dates back to 6800 B.C., though there are traces of evidence that it could be much older than that. Now, about 20,000 people reside in the city.

4. Çatalhöyük, Turkey

Dating back to 7,500 B.C., Çatalhöyük is known to be a settlement of the Neolithic Era, also known as the New Stone Age.

5. Argos, Greece

Dating back to 5,000 B.C., Argos was once home to the Panhellenic Games, which took place around 400 B.C. So essentially, Argos gave us the beginnings of what we now know as the Olympic Games. About 22,000 people currently live in Argos.
