Netflix Wants To Be Your In-Flight Entertainment — For Free
Soon you can stop downloading those Netflix episodes pre-flight because the streaming company wants to broadcast to you straight from your own laptop online and in the air.
Beginning next year, Netflix will offer airlines technology to make your favorite shows watchable at 40,000 feet. Passengers will be able to binge-watch Parks and Rec in high resolution as the airlines save money on Internet costs, according to Netflix. Apparently, it’s a win-win for both jet-setters and airlines alike since the company wants to get more airlines using Netflix as their go-to in-flight entertainment either for free or for a low fee.
This isn’t the first airline partnership for Netflix. Starting in 2015, the company brought its library of titles to the skies on Virgin American, Aeromexico, Qantas and Virgin Australia planes. It only works on flights with Gogo 2Ku or Ka-band Internet access, but passengers on these aircrafts can watch Netflix on their laptop or phone.
Here’s hoping 2018 will be the year of in-flight Netflixing for all!
