Cash back credit cards are the best. Don’t get us wrong, we love earning points and miles, too, but free money? You can’t beat that. And now thanks to NerdWallet’s new cash back program, we can all earn even more every month.

NerdWallet’s Cash Back program rolled out on October 9, 2018, and it’s free for new and existing users. All you have to do is have an account in the NerdWallet app or on its website and then connect all of your credit or debit cards. Then you can start earning more cash back.

The NerdWallet Cash Back program partners with thousands of retailers around the U.S. so that when you swipe your credit card you can earn up to 10 percent cash back on those purchases. It works in conjunction with your cards’ rewards programs, too. You can search for your city or town on NerdWallet and then see how much cash back each retailer offers. We even tried a few zip codes for smaller suburban towns and found local restaurants and stores that offered cash back.

Every time you swipe your card at a participating retailer, you’ll earn a certain amount of cash back. For example, at TD Pizza in Springfield, New Jersey, you can earn 5 percent cash back.

If your NerdWallet Cash Back balance reaches $10 or more by the end of the month, you’ll receive an automatic statement for that amount on your card. It takes about 15 days to process, so if you reach $10 in cash back by October 31, it will show up in your account around November 15. The money will show up in the account of the first card you connected, so it might not be worth adding multiple cards. Our advice is to add the card that you use the most frequently.

This new program is free, and there are zero commitments, so we can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t take advantage of it. It’s free money just for shopping at your fave spots and using your card to pay for those purchases.

We love that the money is credited as a statement, too. This is an easy way to earn money that goes directly toward your credit card debt (as long as you connect a credit card and not a debit card). If you do choose to connect a debit card, make sure you process the charge as credit. Then consider always putting that $10 credit toward your credit card bill instead of keeping it in your checking account.

If you haven’t signed up for a cash back credit card yet, this is a great way to experience the same perks with just a debit card. Free money every month? Yes please!
