Mother of Pearl Is A Tropical Oasis Any Time of Year
[tw-divider]The Scoop[/tw-divider]
- Tucked away on Avenue A in Alphabet City, Mother of Pearl is the tiny island hideout you didn’t know you needed after a long day of work (or a mid-day happy hour). Covered in palm leaves and long, white curtains resembling a private cabana, you’ll step in and immediately feel like you’re a million miles away from the bustle of New York
- The tiki cocktails are strong and the menu is inspired by the flavors of Polynesia, from chef Daphne Cheng, founder of New York City’s vegan supper club ThreeOhSix
- Once you visit Mother of Pearl, you’ll be back to try the whole cocktail menu, we promise. But on your first visit, try the Shark Eye (bourbon with passion fruit and tiki bitters) and the Sugar Cane Magik (Ron Zacapa 23, coconut cream, and pineapple)

The individual cocktails are incredible, but for a spectacular get-together, Mother of Pearl offers “Big Drinks,” sized for two or three people. The Liquid Sunshine (white and dark rum, cherry, and black pepper) will make any date a good one
