When you’re looking for a present to get a friend for the holidays, nothing is easier than candy. It’s cheap and everyone loves it. According to the National Confectionary Association, this year consumers will spend a total of $1.93 billion on candy during the eight weeks leading up to Christmas. Between stocking stuffers, gingerbread houses, all kinds of baking and holiday grab bags, candy for sure comes into high demand once December rolls around.

While every state has its own preference, candy canes are in the spotlight, and 1.76 billion candy canes are produced annually for the holiday season. The largest candy cane ever created was 51 feet long and made in Switzerland.

There’s not too much rhyme or reason for why certain states prefer certain candy since all of the sugary stuff is available nationwide. But it makes sense that Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark is California’s fave since the company’s headquarters are in the state.

A few of the most popular types of candy throughout the country are Skittles, Starbursts, M&Ms, Pez, candy canes and reindeer corn.
