Millennials Say They’ll Sacrifice To Work From Home This Holiday Season

If your company allows you to work from home during the holiday season, consider yourself lucky. If you’re not afforded that luxury, you probably want it. According to the West Unified Communications (West UC), young people not only plan to work from home if allowed over the holidays, but they’d sacrifice a great deal to be able to do it.

West UC researchers surveyed 600 young professionals who work full-time about their holiday work plans for this year. Their findings were surprising, to say the least.

You may have guessed that millennials would prefer to work from home during the week between Christmas and New Year’s — 93 percent of participants reported that they would take full advantage of a work-from-home policy if they have one. And, they’re willing to go above and beyond for that precious time away from the office. 66 percent of participants reported that they would be willing to check emails on Christmas Day in order to have a flexible work-from-home policy during the holidays.

Essentially, young professionals would opt to do even a small amount of work on Christmas Day if it meant that they could work from home that entire week.

“While some might perceive checking your email so often or during non-work hours as an intrusion on personal time, others enjoy the ability to stay connected while getting more time out of the office,” said Kevin McMahon, Technology Marketing Executive of West Unified Communications Services, in a blog post about the survey. “The key for today’s innovative companies is being able to provide the collaboration tools for both preferences.”

What would you do to work from home over the holidays? We’re not sure we’d opt to check our emails on Christmas, necessarily, but we’d do basically anything else. To us, a little time at home (even while working) is always worth it.
