The results are in. Known as the Oscars of the culinary world, The James Beard Awards are given out by the James Beard Foundation (JBF), a not-for-profit organization based in New York City that celebrates the best of the best in the America’s restaurant industry.
The JBF mission is “to celebrate, nurture, and honor chefs and other leaders making America’s food culture more delicious, diverse, and sustainable for everyone.” James Beard was a cookbook author, a teacher with endless knowledge about food, a mentor for generations of chefs, and a “champion of American cuisine.” This culinary organization helps to foster James Beard’s passion through educational programs, food industry awards, scholarships, writing, and many other innovative ways. There’s also the historic James Beard House, a townhouse in Greenwich Village, where chefs from all over the country come to cook and show their talents to food enthusiasts and industry experts.
Here’s the full list of the JBF semifinalists for the 2017 restaurant and chef awards, including everything from Outstanding Restaurant to Outstanding Chef to Rising Star Chef of the Year. The final nominees — including journalism, book, broadcast media, and restaurant design — will be announced on Wednesday, March 15.
