Sushi Nakazawa Expands to Washington, DC, Inside Trump Hotel

Sushi Nakazawa, the elegant and award-winning omakase sushi restaurant from chef Daisuke Nakazawa, protege of Jiro Ono, will expand to DC with a sister restaurant called Nakazawa, located inside the Trump International Hotel. The forthcoming restaurant will take the place of an earlier project from DC celebrity chef José Andrés, who withdrew from the deal in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial remarks on immigration. Nakazawa restaurateur Alessandro Borgognone told the Washington Post that Trump’s “political views are not our political views” and Grub Street that in fact, Trump’s children are far more involved with the deal than their dad. “Certain things, Ivanka handles,” Borgognone said. “Certain things, Don Jr. It’s great. They’re very direct, very hands-on. About air conditioning, electrical, whatever. They know exactly what they want. I respect that.”

Midtown Mystery Man Steals Bucket of Gold From Armored Truck In Broad Daylight, Remains At Large

An unidentified man in the right place and right time was able to steal $1.6 million in gold from the back of an armored truck in broad daylight in Midtown Manhattan in late September, according to newly released information and surveillance footage from the NYPD. The hefty sum of gold was contained in a metal five-gallon bucket in the back of an unattended truck near West 48th Street. And because the bucket of gold was quite heavy — 86 pounds of gold flakes, to be exact — the theft took quite some time. Crossing from Fifth Avenue to Third, approximately half a mile, takes the man an hour, during which time he is also observed putting the bucket on the sidewalk and stopping to catch his breath. Upon reaching 48th and Third, the man somehow “disappears,” according to the police. At present, he and his bucket of gold are at large, though authorities believe he is in Florida.

The iconic Manhattan dining institution once known as the Four Seasons Restaurant, inside the Seagram Building at 375 Park Avenue, will be renamed the Landmark under the new ownership of the restaurateurs behind Major Food Group — Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznick — whose other restaurants include Carbone, ZZ’s Clam Bar, Sadelle’s. The name is short for “the Landmark Rooms,” according to Page Six, and actually refers to two restaurants, “a classic American called the Grill, and a modern seafood eatery named the Pool.”

Big Mac Inventor James Delligatti Dies

Michael James Delligatti, the man who invented the iconic Big Mac (two beef patties, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and special sauce on a sesame seed bun) in 1967, has died at the age of 98, according to the Associated Press. Delligatti, better known as Jim, was the owner of several McDonald’s franchises in Pennsylvania, and created the burger in response to his customers’ desires for a bigger sandwich. The Big Mac was eventually added to the menus of each of his nearly 50 franchises throughout the state, and then to McDonald’s national menu in 1968. According to his son, Delligatti ate at least one Big Mac a week for the last several decades. In a statement, McDonald’s called Delligatti “a legendary franchisee within McDonald’s system who made a lasting impression on our brand.”

Mitt Romney’s Awkward Dinner Date With Donald Trump Launches a Meme

Earlier this week, one-time Republican foes Donald Trump and Mitt Romney went to dinner together at Jean-Georges, using a sumptuous, three Michelin-starred, four-course meal to smooth over a history of head-butting, including comments from the President-elect about how Romney was a “failed candidate.” Romney, meanwhile, has called Trump “a con man” and “a fake.”

Yet on Tuesday, the two men (along with Reince Priebus) met to break bread and, presumably, make peace. It’s unclear just what was discussed during this historic dinner, but one perfect snapshot speaks a thousand words, and has spawned even more memes. In case you were wondering, here’s what they ate, too:

Of Course the Latest Thing You Can Put on Yelp Is a ‘Yelfie’

Yelp

Yelp

In the age of the social media influencer and even the “micro-influencer,” Yelp is more than happy to stroke your ego for free content with the introduction of the “Yelfie,” a new feature of the Yelp app that allows you to upload a selfie every time you write a review. Good news for selfie lovers, bad news for anyone who would rather take a closer look at the food or venue.
