Martha Stewart Is Launching a Cafe Chain & a Show with Snoop Dogg

Martha Stewart — the woman who turned DIY genius into a multimedia empire and whose brief 2004 prison stint (for insider trading) made her more relatable — is adding ‘restaurateur’ to her resume. Beginning this year, Stewart will launch a chain called the Martha Stewart Café, “inspired by the wonderful coffee shops [she’s] visited all around the world.” The cafes are a partnership with Macy’s, and will be located inside different Macy’s locations around the US. The first location, outside of the existing Martha Stewart Café in the lobby of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia headquarters in Chelsea, is now open inside the Macy’s at the Sacramento Golden 1 Center. Pastries will be supplied by local bakeries (in New York, by Balthazar and Bien Cuit) and coffee and granola are Martha’s own brand.

Starbucks PSL Disruptor Is This Coffee and Beer ‘Cloud’

’Tis the season for pumpkin spice lattes, but for those of you who don’t happen to live and breathe PSL, Starbucks has a new menu item for you, and it’s part IPA, part coffee. Available only on Starbucks Evenings menus, the Espresso Cloud IPA — essentially a beer and a shot — is the result of a year of research for the coffee company. Below, Starbucks R&D member and “coffee master” Justin Burns-Beach explains how the Cloud came to be:

Brick-and-Mortar Grocery Stores from Amazon

Online behemoth Amazon is expanding its presence in the brick-and-mortar retail industry with the launch of physical grocery stores, starting in Seattle. Membership to the stores, at least at first, will be available only to existing customers of Amazon Fresh, the company’s grocery delivery service. Per the Wall Street Journal, these small stores will sell meat, milk, produce, and other perishable goods, and also allow for curbside pickup of online orders. The expansion of its grocery division into physical stores could mean huge gains for Amazon, as grocery shopping accounts for one-fifth of American consumer spending, according to Morgan Stanley Research.

Grandson Calls Pizza Guy to Check on His Grandmother After Hurricane Matthew

Here’s the sweetest story about a pizza delivery you’ll probably ever read: In the wake of Hurricane Matthew last week, 87-year-old Florida resident Claire Olsen’s phone line was out, and her family hadn’t heard from her in several days. Worried that Olsen might not have survived the storm, her grandson in Nebraska called a Papa John’s in Palm Coast, and ordered his grandmother a pizza. He also asked the driver, Lance Tyler, to check on his grandma.

Per WFTV:

When Tyler knocked on the door, Olsen said she didn’t order a pizza.

“Your grandson did,” Tyler replied.

When Olsen opened the door, Tyler followed the specific delivery instructions and used his phone to call the woman’s grandson in Nebraska.

“The way that he answered the phone, ‘Is she there? Is she OK?’ It sounded like he was worried,” Tyler told WFTV.

After reassuring her grandson, Olsen enjoyed her pepperoni pizza. Tyler said the whole experience was better than any tip he has ever received.

“Her expression was just priceless. It was like, ‘Wow!’” Tyler told WFTV.

Olsen’s phone has been reconnected and she has called friends and family to let them know she’s fine.

The Dead Rabbit Is Officially the #1 Bar Bar in the World

The Dead Rabbit

The Dead Rabbit

Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry’s stylish mid-19th-century cocktail bar, The Dead Rabbit, has been awarded the top spot on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2016, making it the best bar in the world, yet again. Previously, The Dead Rabbit was named the “World’s Best Bar” by Tales of the Cocktail in 2015, and Best American Cocktail Bar” and “World’s Best Drinks Selection” in 2014, as well as “World’s Best Cocktail Menu” and “International Bartender of the Year” in 2013.

“This means the world to us,” Dead Rabbit co-founder Jack McGarry said in a statement. “It represents an acknowledgment of our work from our colleagues in the industry that we so respect and admire. We joyfully share this award with our team who make the bar what it is, day after day, night after night. For two Belfast boys, this is truly a dream come true.”

Eat Here If You Love America

A new restaurant opening Saturday, October 15, in the East Village, will literally capitalize on your patriotism. Whether you’re With Her or you’re heeding the call to Make America Great Again, the subtly-named ‘Merica (a concept from the same team behind the Tim Burton-inspired Beetle House and Will Ferrell-themed Stay Classy), is a living, breathing, credit card-ringing ode to the USA. The restaurant is a playful homage to the gun-slinging, NASCAR-racing patriotism that co-founder Zach Neil grew up with. “Imagine the Donald Trump campaign coming to your backyard every weekend,” Neil, who grew up next to a race track, told DNA Info.

On the menu: “a delicious variety of American comfort foods (stacked unique burgers, fried chicken, old fashioned mac and cheese, bbq, chili, small bites, wings, deluxe grilled cheese, etc).”
