You Can Sand Surf Down These Massive Peruvian Dunes
When you think of boarding down a slope of fresh powder, you probably imagine a ski vacation in the mountains, right? Well guess what? It doesn’t have to be winter for you to embrace your favorite cold season activity. Head to Peru and you can fly down its incredible sand dunes.
How’s that for a twist on a winter sport?
You can find the dunes in Huacachina, which is a small desert town right outside of the city of Ica. Huacachina is known for its crystal blue lagoons, gorgeous palm trees and, of course, its dunes.
The town is home to only a few hundred residents, but it’s a popular tourist destination among both international travelers and wealthy Peruvians. You can stay at a resort or visit for the day, and the opportunities for experiencing the dunes are nearly endless. You can rent specialized sand dune skis or a board. You can also arrange for a dune buggy tour.
Don’t skip on the fun just because you can’t hit the slopes during the “off season,” because now you can. The dunes may become your new favorite destination.
