Here’s How To Keep Your Lettuce Crunchy Longer

If salads are part of your daily food routine, chances are you’ve dealt with loads of mushy lettuce in your lifetime. Depending on how you treat your lettuce once you bring it home, it could last for two days or up to a couple of weeks. Your best friend is a salad spinner, and you can easily get one online for $15. As long as you have a salad spinner, paper towels and large Ziploc bags, your salad will be in good shape. Your days of throwing out unused lettuce are over.

You’ll want to wash your leaves thoroughly first, making sure to get any dirt off. Even if your lettuce says it’s prewashed you should still give it a good rinse.

Pack your salad spinner with your lettuce and give it a good spin until all of the leaves are dry.

Take one or two dry paper towels, depending on how much lettuce you have, and lay them out on the countertop. Pile your lettuce in the middle and wrap the paper towels around the lettuce. You’ll want to use one of those large Ziploc bags and neatly pack your wrapped lettuce inside.

Make sure you get all of the air out of the plastic bag, close it up and store it in the fridge until you need it. You can check your lettuce every few days to make sure it’s not going bad and throw away any leaves you might think are starting to spoil. If you notice the paper towel starts to become a little too wet, replace the paper towel with a dry one.

There’s no reason your lettuce should have such a short life when you can use an easy tactic like this.
