You don’t need us to tell you that Ibiza is the ultimate travel destination for chilling beachside by day and partying it up by night with your best gal pals. And despite its popularity — partially driven by so many movies depicting it as the ultimate debauchery vacation — it is possible to travel to Ibiza on a budget. Here’s what the expenses of your luxe trip could look like if you plan accordingly.

Fly

There are no direct flights from the United States to Ibiza. So, unless you have a private jet (in which case you probably wouldn’t be reading a post about budgeting), you will have to fly to a major European city first — most likely London, Madrid or Barcelona — and then hop on a connecting flight to Ibiza. The town of Ibiza is about four miles from the airport so you’ll have to take a local bus or drive (if you’ve decided to rent a car) to your accommodations.

If you decide to go to Ibiza during peak season, which typically runs from May through October, and you book your trip a month in advance, you can get roundtrip plane tickets starting at $1,531. You could go during the offseason to save some cash, but around mid-October, most bars and clubs close and the temperatures drop, so the trip might not be worth your time and money anymore. When booking your plane ticket, try looking on sites like Kayak or Skyscanner for the best airfare deals.

Sleep

Airbnb

If you’re going to do Ibiza right, stay in one of the island’s hotels that offer all-inclusive packages. Many, like Hotel Playasol Riviera, are either on or a short walk from the beach. This particular hotel is located in San Antonio, one of Ibiza’s main party hubs. For just $72 per person per night, you’ll get a room at Hotel Playsol Rivera with two beds, breakfast, lunch and dinner (which include all-you-can-eat buffets and all-you-can-drink select alcoholic beverages), plus free parking. Many of these all-inclusive hotels also offer discounts on parties across the island, in addition to nightly in-house shows.

If you’d rather avoid masses of partygoers and go the Airbnb route, you could rent an entire cottage like this one on the water that includes a private pool and houses up to 12 members of your squad for only $54 per person per night.

Eat

If you’re looking to save cash when in Ibiza, stay at an all-inclusive hotel that will give you meals and drinks throughout the duration of your stay as part of your reservation package. And even if you haven’t bought an all-inclusive package, if you’re staying at a hotel, breakfast is usually included.

Groceries in Ibiza are relatively inexpensive, so if you’re staying at an Airbnb that has a kitchen, you might want to consider cooking your own food. You could make a breakfast of eggs, bread and cheese for under $7. When it comes to lunch and dinner, things tend to get a little more expensive (especially during the busy season). The trick is to avoid international food restaurants — a well-known tourist trap — and seek out local Spanish restaurants for your chance to savor local fresh seafood paella for $14. Also, look for “menu of the day” items if you’re eating out and hunting for good value pricing and discounts.

Drink

If you’re staying at a hotel that has unlimited free drinks as part of your all-inclusive package, you’re saving a lot of money on your partying expenses. Drinking out in Ibiza gets pricey — a cocktail at a popular club will cost you $17 and could run you upwards of $20 at one of the island’s superclubs. Even water is expensive when you’re clubbing in Ibiza. Just one glass could cost $13.

If you decide to drink when in Ibiza, we recommend that you have the bulk of your drinks before heading to the club or bar and maybe splurge on one cocktail once you’re out (bonus if you can get a cute local to buy your drink instead). Consider buying your own pre-party drinks at a local liquor store if you’re on a budget. A mid-range bottle of wine will cost you $14.

Party

This is where the real cash will be spent during your trip, but — let’s face it — partying is also the main reason that you decided to go to Ibiza in the first place.

Plan in advance and book club tickets before you get to Ibiza. You can see all artist line-ups and events for the month of your trip by checking out Ibiza Spotlight’s party calendar. If you book your tickets about a month in advance and get early-bird specials, you could spend a night at one of Ibiza’s most popular clubs with a lineup of 7+ DJs for just $27. When you compare this to the $75 you’d spend if you waited to pay for club entrance the day of, it doesn’t sound too shabby.

The Verdict

We think Ibiza is worth the splurge. You’ll be spending quite a bit more than you would on another beach vacation like the Bahamas, but the palpable excitement that you’ll feel when immersing yourself in the party land that is Ibiza is definitely worth the extra cash. For music lovers and partygoers, there’s just nothing quite like Ibiza.
