Research Finds A Hot Bath Burns As Many Calories As A 30-Minute Walk

Are you ready for the best news of the year? You may want to sit down for this — or better yet, maybe take a soak in your tub, because a new study shows that the calories you burn after a bath are the same as a 30-minute walk.

Basically, hot baths could benefit you the same way a short workout does. We are thrilled.

In the study Loughborough University, 14 men were tested by participating in both an hour of cycling or an hour of soaking in a 104-degree bath. The activities were intended to increase each participant’s core body temperature by one degree over the course of an hour.

Though cycling burned more calories than the bath, researchers found that the bath still burned around 130 calories, which is what you would burn after walking for 30 minutes. Blood sugar levels, which heavily affect metabolic rate, were 10 percent lower after eating following the bath, which can reduce inflammation if done regularly.

The data is there and we’re totally into it, so take a load off and hop in the tub. Take an hour of you time and burn, baby, burn.
