If Tinder And Airbnb Had A Baby, It Would Be This New Home-Sharing App

Swiping is addicting, we won’t lie. We swipe through dating apps, our friends’ Instagram stories and even through Spotify playlists to find our next jam. Swiping makes the world go ’round. And now, swiping can also help you go around the world with this new home-sharing app.

The premise is Tinder meets Airbnb. The new app is called Holiday Swap, and it would allow travelers to trade homes for just $1.

The founder is the youngest person in the world to visit every country across the globe. After seeing 196 countries, 24-year-old James Asquith built an app to help other travelers explore our planet, too.

Still in its early (slightly clunky) stages, the app has listings in 40 countries across six continents. It works just like a dating app — all users have to have a space to offer to other travelers. You swipe on homes where you’d love to stay while other users swipe on your home. If you get a match, you can chat with the owner and check out their availability to swap homes.

Get a bunch of matches? The app displays all the homes you could stay in on a worldwide map so you can see where in the world you could go.

It’s technically free to swap homes but to swap homes on the app, it costs $1. The app’s creators vet each listing, according to internal standards. And it’s still cheaper than Airbnb, as well as a more social media-friendly method than couch surfing.

Now, the app still has some work to do. It’s pretty scrappy, meaning the homes aren’t as glossy as what you’ll find on Airbnb, and the interface can be a little buggy. It’s more like what you might have found on the site in the early days when people were just filling their empty rooms with fellow travelers. But hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?
