Life Hack Of The Day: Sweat Stains Edition

Sweat stains aren’t glamorous, but they do happen — and lemon juice can help remove them. Apply plain lemon juice to the underarm area of your shirt and let sit for 15 minutes as a pre-soak before washing. Try on an inconspicuous area first and don’t try this on delicates — like silk — the juice may damage the fabric.

Health

The glycemic index (or GI) of a carb-containing food is a measure of how quickly it causes your blood sugar levels to spike after you eat it. Foods with a GI rating of 70 and above are considered high-glycemic foods. When your blood sugar spikes rapidly, as it does when you consume foods with a higher GI score, you’re more likely to crash later in the day and your sugar cravings may even increase later on. Find out what foods have the highest and lowest glycemic index ratings for every food group. [Swirled]

Food + Drink

This year’s Easter candy selection has proven to be exceptionally unusual. Whether or not you celebrate the holiday, it’s always a good excuse to eat a giant bunny-shaped chocolate all by yourself without judgment. This year, snag a bag of egg-shaped Oreos with a purple-crème filling from your local Target or indulge in a cinnamon sugar churro marshmallow egg from Russell Stover. Here are our other top Easter candy picks that you’ll def want to add to your basket. [Swirled]

Recipe Of The Day: Italian Easter bread is a holiday staple for many. The lightly sweet dough, flavored with anise (licorice) oil and orange zest, perfumes the whole house and just smells like tradition. The twice-risen dough is divided into two logs, twisted and shaped into a circle before baking. It is traditional to nestle colorful hard-cooked eggs into the dough before baking — but that’s totally optional. Once the bread is baked to a golden-brown color, finish with a simple sugar glaze and colorful nonpareils. It is a bit of a process, but well worth it. [Brown Eyed Baker]

A quick tip from yours truly: Active dry yeast and instant yeast (a.k.a. rapid-rise) are interchangeable but here’s the trick — active dry yeast needs to be dissolved before incorporating it into a recipe, whereas instant yeast can be mixed in without dissolving. One more thing: store yeast in the freezer to extend its shelf life — there’s nothing more frustrating than baking and not having your dough rise.
