- Emmy Squared is the new pizza project from Emily and Matt Hyland, who already run the Emily Pizza of Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. At Emmy, the menu is all about Detroit pizza, which is unchartered territory in New York
- So what defines Detroit pizza? It’s square, for one, and has a deep-dish crust that lends itself to a chewier experience than New York pizza. For reference, Detroit-style pizza has a thicker crust than New York, but thinner than Chicago
- Get familiar with the Midwestern interpretation of pizza with Emmy’s signature pie: mozzarella, banana peppers, onions, ranch, and a side of sauce. If you’re of the opinion that ranch doesn’t belong anywhere near a pizza, you can take that up with Emily herself, who’s a big fan
