If you’ve ever wondered what pure bliss looks like, we have a solid visual for you. El Peñón de Guatapé, which is a monolith in Guatapé, offers the most incredible views of the world around it. Interested in seeing the planet from the best seat in the house? You have to check out El Peñón.

El Peñón de Guatapé is a 10-million-ton rock overlooking Guatapé’s reservoir lake, Embalse del Peñol, as well as the surrounding village. In the 1950’s, the rock was discovered and repurposed into a way to see nature from a different point of view. Those who found the rock built 600 stairs in a zig-zag motion all the way up to the top. After paying a small fee, you can walk your butt up all 600 of those stairs.

A three-story viewpoint tower greets you as you reach the summit. The tower allows you to get a 360-degree view of the village, and you can even find souvenir and beer stands at the top. You can visit the tower by taking a two-hour bus ride from Medellín.
