Japanese Company Creates The First-Ever Edible Chopsticks

We are all about edible dinnerware (remember sugar bowls?) — they’re great for the environment and leave way less of a carbon footprint. Environmentally-friendly companies like Potato Pak in New Zealand and celebrities like Chrissy Teigen have created new biodegradable products. Now, a Japanese company is rocking the world with the first-ever edible chopsticks.

Rocket News reports that Tokyo-based company Marushige Confectionery created the chopsticks from igusa, a type of reed that is typically used to make floor mats. The utensil is as stiff as regular chopsticks while being soft enough to chew through.

So, how do they taste? Apparently, the chopsticks do actually taste like floor. Yikes. Maybe the company is open to creating more…flavorful options? We’re behind the concept as long as it tastes good.
