7/25/19 Newsletter: Do this before your workout

Try a little meditation before your next workout. Sometimes your gym anxiety gets the best of you because you rush to the stationary bike straight from a long workday that already had you stressed to the max. So instead of compounding all of that cortisol in your body, try taking a five-minute break to sit with your eyes closed and focus on taking long, deep breaths. Giving your brain even a short reset can make you that much more resilient to your anxiety, staving it off before it takes hold. Mindfulness is a powerful thing, friends. [Swirled]

Life Hack Of The Day: Clean Phone Edition

Your phone is dirtier than a toilet handle … just, ew. But, a simple spray down of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol and a few swipes from a Q-tip will help keep the germs at bay. Share selfies, not germs. [Swirled]

Health

If you haven’t replaced your pillows in a while, they could be making you sick. According to research, the average pillow can contain more than a million fungal spores known for causing respiratory disorders like asthma. And the mites, fungi and bacteria feed off of our sweat and skin cells to grow. To keep the bad guys at bay, wash your pillows regularly and aim to replace them every six months. Brb, going to buy some new pillows. [Swirled]

Food + Drink

If you’re having trouble sleeping, try moon milk. The warmed milk cocktail, which includes unsweetened nut milk, nutmeg, ashwagandha, honey, cardamom and other spices, has been used in natural healing practices for thousands of years. Make your own or buy it pre-made, but either way, sleep tight! [Swirled]

Recipe Of The Day: Glorious and gluten-free is the only way to describe a Mediterranean-inspired chickpea and quinoa salad. Combine cooked quinoa with a can of drained chickpeas, cumin, garlic and salt until well combined. Then add red onion, parsley, cilantro, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, olive oil and lemon juice. Mix well, finish with black pepper and salt and lemon juice if needed and enjoy! [A Saucy Kitchen]

A quick tip from yours truly:  I recommend rinsing quinoa before cooking it to remove the natural outer coating; it tends to make the quinoa bitter and off-tasting.
